 Additional Information

Proposal Evaluation Criteria

Proposals will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

  • Relevance to the theme and audience of the conference
  • Relevance to the interpreting/translation professions
  • Clearly identified learning objectives
  • Freedom from commercial bias

Edu-Con Quick Facts

  • Attendees range from interpreters and translators to school staff, directors, managers, supervisors, consultants, academic professionals, and students.
  • Learning levels are diverse and range from entry-level/introductory to mid-level/practical to high-level/theoretical.

Tips for a Successful Proposal

  • Content is King: Since the initial review will be blind (meaning that your name, company, and bio will not be revealed until post-selection) the proposal content must speak for itself.
  • Make It Compelling: The interpreting and translation industry is evolving, and interpreting/translation in the education community is on the cusp of change. Learning levels are diverse and Edu-Con attendees may be attending a professional development conference for the first time.
  • Be Authentic: Speak of failure as well as success.
  • Be Informational: Feedback consistently shows that session attendees do not want to hear product pitches; they are looking for real insight that will help them do their jobs better. Make your content a learning opportunity.
  • Be Interactive: The ability of participants to engage with each other and develop relationships is an integral part of the experience.
  • Presentation and material must be language-neutral: Due to the diversity of Edu-Con participants, all proposals, presentations, and materials should be language-neutral (English) unless previously approved as language-specific topics.
