2024 AAITE Board of Directors Self-Nominations

Are you passionate about advancing the professionalization of interpreters and translators in education?

Nominations are now being accepted for the 2024-2026 term for Chair Elect, Secretary, Communications Director, and Director-At-Large. Nominations must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. on Monday, March 25th, 2024

The work that AAITE has been able to accomplish is impressive. However, these achievements would never be possible without the work of dedicated volunteers like you. We invite you to play a more active role in the association; consider running for one of the positions and join the AAITE Board of Directors. 


Who May Run? 

  • Any active Associate Member of AAITE for at least 3 months who is in current good standing with the association
  • The active Associate Member must be interested in self-nominating for the Board position (nominations by others are not accepted at this time)

What is expected of Board Members? 

The Board of Directors plays a pivotal role in championing the organization's mission, ensuring its continuous advancement towards professionalization of interpreters and translators in education, and promoting language access in education. As stewards of our vision, board members uphold the highest standards of dedication, empathy, and forward-thinking leadership. They drive the trajectory of the initiatives necessary to accomplish the organization’s vision and mission with unwavering commitment and a spirited vision for inclusive participation.

What positions are up for election? 

  • Chair Elect

  • Secretary

  • Communications Director

  • Director-At-Large

These Board positions are for a term of 2 years. The position of Chair-Elect carries a four year commitment.  Information about the responsibilities of Board members can be found in the AAITE Bylaws.  Complete the Self-Nominations form below by Monday, March 25th, 2024.  For further information about the election process or if you are unable to open the Self-Nomination Form, contact the AAITE Nominations and Election Committee by e-mailing [email protected].  The newly-elected Board members will be announced on May 4, 2024, at AAITE Edu-Con 2024. After the transition period (May and June), new Board members will be sworn in on July 1st, 2024 to commence serving their terms. 


Timeline: 

  • February 28, 2024: Nominations open
  • March 25, 2024: Nominations close
  • April 1st, 2024: Candidates ballot announced 
  • April 7th, 2024: Voting opens
  • May 4th, 2024: Voting closes at 12:00pm EST 
  • May 4th, 2024: New Board is announced at the Closing Ceremony of Edu-Con 2024

Position Descriptions: 

In addition to the duties and responsibilities of each position, all Board members are expected to:  

  • Attend and actively participate in monthly 90-minute board meetings.
  • Thoroughly prepare for board meetings, including the review of reports, committee findings, and pending decisions.
  • Engage in various AAITE activities such as committees, work groups, and projects, as needed.
  • Timely respond to communication requests for input on organizational decisions and contributions to committees, working papers, or projects.
  • Be involved in the annual conference (Edu-Con), fostering collaboration and alignment with the broader membership.
  • Complete a conflict of interest and confidentiality agreement on a yearly basis, as well as other relevant forms as required by law or AAITE's Bylaws.

Position Duties and Responsibilities

Chair-Elect

7/1/2024 to 6/30/2026

This is a two-year term position with a four-year commitment. At the end of the 2-year term, the Chair-Elect shall automatically become Chair of the Association. 

Duties - The Chair-Elect shall perform all duties applicable to the office of Chair-Elect as prescribed by the parliamentary authority adopted by the Association or as may be presented by the Board from time to time, and shall be a member ex-officio of all committees, except the Nominations and Elections Committee and special committees, without the right to vote unless otherwise provided by these Bylaws. 

Chair-Elects leads the Event Committee for the organization of Edu-Con; attend and actively participate in the monthly 90-minute Executive Committee meetings

Secretary

7/1/2024 to 6/30/2026

Duties - The Secretary shall keep the minutes of the meetings; assure that all notices are duly given in accordance with the provisions of the bylaws or as required by law; be the custodian of the organization records; keep a register of the mailing address and email of each member; and in general perform all duties incident to the office of Secretary and such other duties as from time to time may be assigned by the Chair or by the Officers.

Communications Director

7/1/2024 to 6/30/2026

Duties - The Communication Coordinator is responsible for managing and coordinating the marketing and communication strategies of the Association; coordinates  with the Communications Committee;  interacts with other committees and members as needed to obtain relevant information; and curates the organization’s website, and overall media and social media presence.

Director at Large

Position 3

7/1/2024 to 6/30/2026

Duties  - The Director-At-Large is responsible for supporting the work of the Board to develop a strategic plan, the annual implementation of such plan, and advises the Board when implementation milestones are reached. This position has a particular focus on grant writing and funding.
